Keith A Pettit

‘I aim to create sculpture that feels almost like the environment has conspired to create the object, a sense of growth rather than something that has imposed itself in the site. I passionately draw my inspiration from the history, landscape and natural history to give a real sense of place. I use natural and locally occurring materials to ensure my sculpture sits sympathetically within any chosen site. With all my sculpture I am keen to explore the cycle of ageing and decay, to ultimately abstract and enhance the work.’

Frequently working with found wood, Keith immerses himself in a process of seeking and revealing sculptural form, using techniques such as carving, chain-sawing, burning, oiling and traditional coach enamels. Materials are sourced from 5,000 year-old bog oak, raised from the Pevensey Levels, mature elm, and Wealden oak.

Keith produces large-scale sculptures for public spaces including Sheffield Park National Trust, and Farleys Sculpture Garden and private commissions as well as medium sized sculptures for gardens and smaller interior pieces. Recently, Keith has begun to paint his work such as in the Holding collection.
